Matteo Cairoli (I), #7: The dominance could hardly be greater. In Spain Matteo Cairoli held the competition almost playfully at a distance. Only four laps he needed in qualifying to ensure his pole position with a distance of nearly three-quarters of a second to the others. “The car was perfect down to the last detail. The pole position of course is the best starting place to win a race,” said the young Italian on Saturday afternoon.
With surprising ease the youngster created a big gap, was not irritated by a safety-car phase and won the first race of 2016. Two seconds after the Italian, Sven Müller and Mathieu Jaminet saw the checkered flag.
Matteo Cairoli: “A huge thank to FACH AUTO TECH for the great effort. I’m so proud to be a part of the team.” And Alex FACH analysed in detail: “Matteo is a super driver talent with a great basic speed. During the race Matteo could attack even more, but he had not to go to the limit. It’s an incredible season kickoff.”
Already next weekend the Porsche-Junior will take part at the German Porsche Carrera Cup. In Spielberg, where he once again will drive an Ebi-Motors Porsche, Alex Fach will be at his side. “It is simply the most efficient chance of testing on the A1-Ring where the Supercup is guest in July”, Alex Fach said concerning the busy schedule.
Philipp Frommenwiler (CH), #6: Philipp Frommenwiler was a bit disappointed after the qualifying session. The Swiss located his racing car with 460 hp in the fifth row of the grid. “The qualy was frustrating” the Kreuzlinger reported. His slogan for the race was simply “Attack!”
On Sunday morning, the Porsche with start number # 6 established in ninth place already on the first meters of the race. After the safety car phase he was involved in tight competition around eighth place. At the end of the fourteen laps Philip Frommenwiler saved the ninth position and scored seven points for his Supercup-account.
“It wasn’t a good weekend for me: After a good start I climbed to p8. In a battle I dropped to p11. Finally I fought my way back to p9. At last I have collected some important points for the championship”, Philipp Frommenwiler reported. And team owner Alex Fach added: “I am a little bit perplexed. Philip never got into his stride this weekend. Until the next race we have a lot of work.” By a total of 27 points FACH AUTO TECH is ranked in second place on the team table.
The next event of Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at 29th of May will already be a cracking highlight. The heroes of the fastest Porsche brand trophy will start on the legendary street circuit of Monte Carlo. (petra weddige, motorsport-concepts.de; Fotos: Porsche)
