FACH AUTO TECH driver Glauco Solieri impressed with a strong performance on the narrow street circuit of Monaco. Started from 26th position, the Swiss battled through the streets of the principality and secured third place in the B-Classification of the championship. Porsche-Junior Matt Campbell had a thrilling race as well, battling for a podium finish until the chequered flag came out.
Started from the back of the grid, Glauco Solieri was able to improve some positions right away. Despite numerous battles and collisions in the midfield, the racer who was born in Italy kept a cool head. Lap by lap he improved positions and in the final stage of the race he only just missed second rank.
“Glauco really impressed me today. He delivered a really strong performance, improved positions and battled for second place in his class until the final stage of the race. Despite the demanding circuit he made up ten position and delivered a strong drive today. We are really satisfied with his performance”, concluded team manager Alex Fach.
After a podium finish in Barcelona, Matt Campbell started from fifth spot in the grid into the Monaco race. At the start, the Australian managed to defend his position and after only a few meters he started his first attacks on the top-four. However, some collisions on the race track made overtaking a difficult matter. In the final stage of the race he could close the gap to the driver in fourth position and put up the pressure on him. Finally the strong performance was not rewarded and the Australian had to settle with fifth place.
The race of Josh Webster took a similar difficult course. The young Briton started into the race from eighth position and had to defend the attacks from behind at the beginning. At about halftime of the race he was able to build up a gap to the followers, aiming to catch up with the cars ahead of himself. However, despite a couple of quick laps he finally had to settle with eights position in the overall standings of the race.
“Matt and Josh showed a great debut in Monaco. Both kept a cool head and consequently put pressure on the drivers on the top-positions. On no other racetrack overtaking is more difficult than in Monaco. We delivered a strong team performance and claimed position two and three in the rookie classification. If we manage to improve in the qualifying session, we will be on the right way.”
After a short summer break, the next round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup takes place on the Red Bull Ring in Austria, from July 7th to 9th. In front of the picturesque alpine scene, the team from Sattel in Switzerland could show a strong performance already in last years edition of the race and will do everything for a top-result in 2017 as well.
