A win with flying colours – FACH AUTO TECH’s excursion into the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland was a total success. Matt Campbell triumphed with a perfect performance in his debut race on the Spielberg Red Bull Ring. The guest start served as a preparation for the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup guest performance in Austria in a few weeks.
“My first European victory is really special. Being rewarded so quickly for all the recent months hard work, is an incredible feeling”, said Matt Campbell, after a successful Saturday race. Starting from second on the grid, the up-and-coming talent from Australia took on pole setter Larry ten Voorde in lap three. With a manoeuvre straight from the picture-book, he overtook the Dutchman and raced his way to a maiden win.
The second race took place on Sunday and here Campbell was also one of the fastest in the field of 31 cars. All 19 laps saw the young talent fighting for the lead and he ultimately passed the chequered flag in third place. “Unfortunately I couldn’t turn my pole position into another win, but I’m still very happy with the result. It was a good weekend all round”, said Campbell.
Team mate Josh Webster also delivered a strong performance on the Red Bull Ring, but wasn’t rewarded with a top result. After a difficult qualifying and brake problems, the Brit’s initial situation wasn’t a good one and he had to make do with eleventh place in the Saturday race. An accident on Sunday, shortly before the finish, put a damper on the hot chase and ruined all hopes of a good result.
Alex Fach draws a positive conclusion about the Red Bull Ring guest start. “Both Matt and Josh have performed brilliantly”, said the team manager, full of praise. “I’m proud of the way both of them continuously focused on working hard with the mechanics, in order to get the best out of the cars. It was important to get really geared up for the Supercup race on the Red Bull Ring and we’ll be using the following weeks for analysis and optimal preparation for the season’s upcoming race.”
