PODIUM FINISH FOR FACH AUTO TECH IN B CLASSIFICATION

The FACH AUTO TECH team comes to the close of the season’s fifth Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup weekend with a tear in one eye and a smile in the other. After a strong qualifying performance, the team had to be content with 18th, 19th and 20th places. And it was a real pity for the Swiss, because Glauco Solieri only came in third in the B classification, but nevertheless collected valuable class points.

The last July weekend saw FACH AUTO TECH participating in the next round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup just outside Budapest. The team from Sattel travelled with really high hopes to the season’s probably hottest race. After a successful guest start in the GT3 Cup Challenge Central Europe, where Josh Webster secured a win and Matt Campbell a second place, FACH AUTO TECH was again aiming for a podium finish in the Porsche brand trophy.

After the Australian had started fifth on the grid and his British team mate on eighth, they drove a convincing qualifying under continually changing track conditions. The Porsche drivers’ race however, didn’t run as smoothly as hoped. Due to clutch failure, Matt Campbell’s car had to be push-started by the team and he began the race from the pit lane.

“Obviously, this isn’t how we’d imagined the Hungary weekend”, said a disappointed team manager Alex Fach. “Finishing  the race outside the Top Ten after a strong qualifying, isn’t a good feeling. But I’m still pleased that Glauco’s third place in his class meant him celebrating another podium position.”

Podium finish for Glauco Solieri

A turbulent start phase with several accidents in the rear end of the field, caused a lot of yellow phases and stopped the FACH AUTO TECH drivers from making their usual attacks over the first laps. Towards race end, Josh Webster managed to overtake and reach seventh position. The resulting counterattack made by his opponent, sent the Brit into a spin and he duly crossed the finish line in 18th place. Matt Campbell came in 19th, followed by team mate Glauco Solieri (20th).

“I had a good start and could defend the second position in the B class”, Glauco Solieri summed up. “But the car behind me touched me in a bend and I lost several positions. At the end, I fought back to third place and so basically I think I can be quite content with the weekend.”

Next stop for the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup sees the Swiss team in Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium. Over the weekend 25th – 27th August, FACH AUTO TECH will be doing everything in their power on the Ardennes circuit to compensate the Hungaroring setback. For all those who missed the Hungary race, Eurosport 1 is broadcasting a complete repeat on Tuesday 1st August at 23:00.
