FACH AUTO TECH secures first podium of the season

Following on from a solid performance in the qualifying, FACH AUTO TECH laid the foundations for an impressive weekend in the 2018 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. Jaap van Lagen took second position at the first round of the season at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Starting from fourth on the grid, Jaap van Lagen moved up two places at the start of the race and quickly cemented his second place on the track. The leading pair of Ammermüller and van Lagen soon established a gap to the rest of the field, but the lead disappeared due to a number of safety car phases. The Dutch driver successfully defended himself against a number of attacks in second place and gave FACH AUTO TECH its first podium of the season.

Teammate Nick Yelloly also began the race from a promising position after qualifying fifth. The Brit made a good start and moved up to fourth in the early part of the race. Yelloly spend the remainder of the race battling among the chasing pack and ultimately crossed the line in sixth. A subsequent penalty handed to Project 1 driver Larry ten Voorde promoted the FACH AUTO TECH driver to fifth.

Christof Langer in the third FACH AUTO TECH Porsche rounded off an exciting start to the season for the Sattel-based team. After qualifying 27th, the German driver put in a consistent performance and finished 21st overall. In the Pro-Am category, Langer finished in third.

“We are very pleased with how the weekend went,” said Alex Fach. “We had a great car that allowed us to fight for the lead right from the start of the race. Jaap gave his all and rewarded the team with the first podium of the season. We were also very proud of Christof’s performance after he secured a well-earned third position in the ProAm class.

“Unfortunately, Nick Yelloly had a few problems with understeer, and so the race wasn’t easy for him,” Fach continued. “We still need to look into the reason why. Nevertheless, he did well to finish fifth and we are happy that the first weekend of the season went well.

Eurosport will be showing a repeat of the race on Tuesday 15 May at 9:30pm. The second round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup takes place in Monaco from 24 to 27 May.
