Ready for season highlight in Monaco Principality

After the excellent results of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup’s first round in Barcelona, an optimistic FACH AUTO TECH team travels on to the second race in Monaco, where the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup will be racing from 24 to 27 May as part of the Formula 1 programme in the Principality of Monaco.

It was a tailor-made start in Barcelona, with second place for Jaap van Lagen, fifth for Nick Yelloly and a class third for Christof Langer. Now the road leads to the glamorous realm of Monaco. The FACH AUTO TECH/Jaap van Lagen combination can look back on an immensely successful past in the Principality. The Dutchman, who originally jumped into the FACH AUTO TECH Porsche as a fill-in driver in 2015, not only achieved pole position but also won the race. Team manager Alex Fach recalls: “Of course our memories of this fantastic victory together with Jaap are returning again, but as a result, pressure is also increasing.”

The team boss is looking forward to competing in the season’s highlight: “We’ve got three really good drivers this season and can feel extremely confident about the upcoming second race. Jaap and Nick both have a chance of climbing the podium and we’re want to join the fight for it again. Christof has already proved in Barcelona too, that he can make a podium finish in the ProAm class, so we’re aiming at topping this team achievement.”

For several reasons, this city state race is one of the racing calendar’s toughest. The narrow guardrail-lined circuit and lack of run-off zones mean every driving error is severely punished. Especially in the tightly competitive field of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, it’s most important to maintain a clear overview at all times. “Qualifying’s very important here, to be well-placed for the race. The track is quite narrow, you can hardly overtake. In the qualifying session you have to catch a fast lap with as little traffic on the track as possible,” explains Alex Fach with a view to the weekend.

The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup starts on Sunday, 27 May, at 10:30 and will be broadcast live on TV from 10:15 on Eurosport 2. Eurosport 1 Free-TV shows a repeat on the same day at 22:30.
