FACH AUTO TECH had a disappointing Supercup weekend in Silverstone from 6 to 8 July. Nick Yelloly’s fifth position was the only result to cheer about, with the Brit taking back second position in the overall classification as a result. For Jaap van Lagen and Christof Langer, the race came to a premature end following contact with other cars.
Hopes were high for the Sattel-based team ahead of the home race of driver Nick Yelloly. Despite missing out on the podium, the 27-year-old still picked up vital points in the fight for the championship, rising to second position in the overall classification again.
Yelloly wasn’t able to get among the top positions in free practice or qualifying, despite strong pace. Seventh position in both sessions gave him a tough starting point for the podium finish he was aiming for. The Briton took on the race with brilliant fighting spirit, making up two spots right at the start. But despite his best efforts, Yelloly was unable to close the gap to the leaders and crossed the finishing line in fifth position.
Teammate Jaap van Lagen was looking to put together a recovery drive after qualifying in 17th. However, a collision on lap one put an end to the Dutchman’s race. It was a similar story for Christof Langer in the third FACH AUTO TECH Porsche, who was also forced to retire early.
“Things didn’t go according to plan for the whole weekend,” said Team Principal Alex Fach after the race. “Nick had the pace to get up to the leaders but couldn’t put it all together in free practice or qualifying. His fifth position was the best he could have done – that was important for him and the entire team. The two retirements for Jaap and Christof are obviously extremely disappointing. Collisions are always more likely if you start in 17th on the grid. That’s racing.”
The next opportunity to snag some championship points will be from 20 to 22 July, when FACH AUTO TECH compete in the fifth round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at the Hockenheimring.
