The FACH AUTO TECH team continues to up its Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup title chances. Nick Yelloly’s sixth place in Spa-Francorchamps reduced the gap to frontrunner Michael Ammermüller, cutting his lead to just two points. After seven of ten races, the Brit is the reigning champion’s toughest opponent in the fight for the popular one-make trophy’s crown.
Despite valuable points, Alex Fach isn’t completely satisfied with the Belgian Ardennes weekend. “We haven´t gone to our limit”, the team manger concluded. “We had the pace for a podium, but we didn’t exploit our potential in both qualifying and the race.”
Starting from fourth on the grid, Nick Yelloly found it difficult to hold his ground. During the struggle for positions, the title contender from UK lost two places and crossed the line in sixth place after eleven laps. He landed just in front of points’ leader Michael Ammermüller.
Jaap van Lagen finished eighth in Belgium and after his podium success in Budapest and ranking second in Friday’s Free Practice it meant a minor setback for the ambitious Dutchman. “I was hoping for a better result, but at least we’ve collected some important points for the team standings”, said the 41-year-old.
Driving FACH AUTO TECH’s third Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, Christof Langer made fifth place in the ProAm classification. It was the sixth time in the season that the 52-year-old had scored championship points and he also moved one place forwards in the points league thanks to his strong performance. Langer ranks fourth as he goes into the coming Monza race.
FACH AUTO TECH travels straight from Spa-Francorchamps to its “home game” in Monza, Italy. The tradition-steeped Autodromo Nazionale Monza lies directly on Milan’s front doorstep and is only a few hours’ drive away from the team’s base in Sattel. The year’s eighth round is scheduled for Sunday, 2 September.
Eurosport is showing a repeat of the Belgian Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup on Sunday evening at 19:00.
