Nick Yelloly leaves for the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season’s finale in Mexico as standings runner-up. The Brit’s fourth place in Monza, Italy substantially notched up his points account. Team mate Jaap van Lagen finished sixth after a turbulent race and also secured further valuable points.
“We’re not really happy with fourth place. That’s obvious for those who know us”, said team boss Alex Fach after the eighth race of the year. “But in this crucial championship phase, it’s important we take every point we can get. Now it’s time to get ourselves in top form for the final spurt.”
Nick Yelloly set off from fifth on the grid in Monza. “It wasn’t the ideal position, however I got off to a great start and after a few metres was able to grab an opponent and move into fourth position”, the Brit reported. The 27-year-old continued to put heavy pressure on the leading trio, but there was no getting past them. So, after a total of 14 laps, he’d secured 14 more championship points and now ranks five points behind leader Michael Ammermüller (119).
It was a rollercoaster for Jaap van Lagen in Monza and although the Dutchman made a good start from eighth on the grid, he then slipped back a few positions. But thanks to some courageous overtaking, the stalwart could fight back to sixth position. Team colleague Christof Langer also delivered a strong fighting performance and secured a fifth in the ProAm class.
