It wasn’t the best starting point for FACH AUTO TECH this weekend, but strong fighting spirit and a top-five result tried to level out a challenging weekend. Top driver Christopher Zöchling finished fifth, while teammate Sandro Kaibach took 15th place.
“A podium would have obviously made us very happy, but with such a strong field everyone is so close to one another”, explains Alex Fach. “Unfortunately, the red flag made qualifying a lottery and we weren’t able to make the most of our three solid runs. We could only qualify in the midfield, but our guys tried to make the most of the situation in the end.”
And that’s exactly what Christopher Zöchling did: Although overtaking at Motorsport Arena Oschersleben is considered challenging, the Austrian shone with his dueling prowess. On both Saturday and Sunday, the Austrian emerged victorious from numerous battles. “I wanted to really push right from the start, which I worked out in the beginning,” said the 33-year-old. “In the first race, I lost my front spoiler, which made things a lot trickier. Nevertheless, I was still able to make up four places.”
Sandro Kaibach performed well behind the wheel as well. Right at the start of the race, he had to avoid a stalled car and then hold his own against the competition as the race progressed. After crossing the finish line in 15th place, he found some clear words: “I had planned for more, but both races were difficult. I can take away some useful things from the weekend, though, which will make me stronger in the future.”
Christof Langer will also be looking to come back stronger. The ambitious amateur driver held a promising position in his class before a crash on the last lap led to premature retirement. “Now I am looking forward to the Red Bull Ring, which should be interesting!”
