In 2022, FACH AUTO TECH will be fighting for victories and podiums in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup with a new set of drivers. Youngsters Lorcan Hanafin and Alexander Fach and Porsche veteran Jukka Honkavuori are representing the team from Sattel in its tenth season in the international one-make cup.
Thanks to a mix of talent and experience, Alex Fach feels confident going into the anniversary season. “With this young, talented and yet experienced team, we have the best conditions to achieve top results. Of course, young drivers still have a lot to learn, but they can motivate each other and share experiences”, says the team principal.
A real Porsche veteran joins the team in Jukka Honkavuori. The Finn clinched his first victory in the Porsche GT3 Cup Finland in 2014, and in 2020 and 2021 he competed in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and Carrera Cup Deutschland. “I am very happy to be part of the team. I already know them from the Carrera Cup, and we get on very well,” says the 30-year-old. “The level in the Supercup is very high, everything has to fit together down to the smallest detail if you want to be on the podium – and that’s exactly my goal! I am very confident that we can make that happen and can’t wait to get started.”
With Lorcan Hanafin, the team has brought one of the shooting stars from the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain onboard. The 19-year-old already turned heads there in 2021 with second place in the overall championship. At the Porsche Junior selection in Aragon in Spain, Hanafin once again showed his talent. In addition to the Supercup, the youngster will also take the wheel for FACH AUTO TECH in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland. “The Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland is a difficult series, pair that with Mobil 1 Supercup and you have a very busy year”, says Hanafin. “In my opinion, the Supercup is one of the most challenging championships in the world. This makes me even more excited to get the season started at the end of April!”
The trio is completed by the second Supercup debutant: Alexander Fach. The two-time Porsche Sports Cup Suisse champion has also been able to show his skills in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland in recent years – and, like Hanafin in 2022, will be at the start in two championships. “For me, it’s a huge honour to compete in the Supercup. The atmosphere of Formula 1 is something very special,” Fach explains. “Of course, it’s a very big challenge. We have less driving time, and the field is extremely strong, but I’m really looking forward to it.”
FACH AUTO TECH can prove itself over the course of a total of eight race weekends alongside Formula 1. The race in Imola from 22 to 24 April marks the start of the season. The legendary racetrack in Monaco is followed by Silverstone, before going to the Red Bull Ring, Le Castellet, Spa-Francorchamps and Zandvoort, with Monza hosting the season finale.
