Two solid races and a perfectly coordinated team effort, crowned by the leap onto the podium: The 2022 Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland season-opener saw Alexander Fach celebrating a double win in the rookie classification. Teammate Lorcan Hanafin also made it onto the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps rostrum with a class second.
“A result like this makes us happy as a team and this classification is exactly what the young guns need. We’re delighted to have delivered this performance in the very first race”, Team Principal Alex Fach summarises after the achievement in Belgium.
Ranking 13th in Friday’s race and twelfth on Saturday, Fach not only carved out the lead in the Rookie class, he also left an impressive number of Carrera Cup stalwarts behind him. However, the young Swiss sees room for improvement in the coming races. “I’m satisfied with the results, but there’s definitely potential for development. I made one or two mistakes in the races, and I must get rid of these in future”, says the 19-year-old.
Lorcan Hanafin, teammate and Rookie class rival at the same time, was also focussing on the class podium. The 19-year-old delivered a plucky performance and on Saturday put himself directly behind Fach in an overall 13th place, which meant a second Rookie podium spot for the Sattel-based team. “My weekend began rather disappointingly and a careless error in the first round meant losing the good sixth position gained in qualifying, so in the end I was only 21st, but the second race went much better, and I was able to support the team”, the Brit explained.
Christof Langer could also compensate in the second race. Technical problems made life difficult for him on Friday, but Saturday morning was far more positive for the 55-year-old. A huge portion of fighting spirit finally secured him an overall 28th and a fifth place in the ProAm classification.
Next event on the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland calendar is the race weekend at the Red Bull Ring on 20 to 22 May. Alex Fach‘s squad also heads for France from 26 to 28 May, when the Porsche Sports Club Suisse takes place at the Circuit Paul Ricard. Parallel to that, the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup’s second race is scheduled for 27 to 29 May in Monaco.
