Fifth race of the season, second victory for FACH AUTO TECH: Morris Schuring secured his first win in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup on 30 July in Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. The flying Dutchman had already scored pole position for the race. Teammates Gustav Burton and Alexander Fach came home in 14th and 17th place.
“The ice has finally been broken,” said team principal Alex Fach. “After many ups and downs, we can celebrate our second win this year. This is fantastic – Morris showed an incredibly strong race today.”
Morris Schuring had every reason to celebrate on Saturday. With a lap time of 2:21.094, the Dutchman scored his first pole position in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. In the race, of course, the 18-year-old tried everything to keep the lead during the entire race. First and foremost, second-placed Bastian Buus kept putting on pressure – but Schuring kept his cool and clinched his first win of the 2023 season.
“Unbelievable! I’m so happy,” said Schuring after the race. “The season so far hasn’t always been easy for me, so I’m all the more happy about the win. It is such a relief!”
Behind him, Gustav Burton tried to make up places in the midfield. On the daunting ‘Ardennes roller coaster’ he showed his fighter mentality and kept a cool head. The Brit crossed the finish line in 14th place to collect further points for the overall championship. This also meant fourth place in the rookie classification.
Alexander Fach, meanwhile, showed a strong race with many overtakes. Having only started from 22nd place due to a penalty, the Porsche pilot made up four places on the opening lap. As the race progressed, the winner from Silverstone continued to move up through the field. In the end he secured 17th place.
The FACH AUTO TECH quartet was completed by Jan Klingelnberg, who normally competes in the Porsche Sports Cup Suisse. He is the second driver to take part in the most popular of the Porsche one-make series as a guest starter for the team in the 2023 season and to gain experience on the international stage.
For the Sattel-based team it is straight on to the Nürburgring. The next race weekend of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland takes place there from 4 to 6 August. The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup returns from its summer break at the end of August.
