Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps lived up to its fearsome reputation as one of the most challenging tracks in the world at the latest round of the ADAC GT Masters from 30 August to 1 September. FACH AUTO TECH experienced a weekend of mixed emotions, but managed to finish on a high with second place and a class win in race two.
“This podium means a great deal to us,” said team principal Alex Fach. “Alexander and Alexander did a fantastic job at the weekend. And that makes our retirement on Saturday all the more difficult to accept. But instead of letting their heads down, the team came back stronger on Sunday and really showed what they are capable of.”
That extra bit of fight was definitely needed for the Sprint race on Sunday afternoon. Alexander Schwarzer started the race from 15th on the grid but emerged in a strong position after a brilliant opening stint. Alexander Fach picked up where he left off after the pit stop and put together some fantastic overtakes to finish second overall and take the win in the Pro-Am category.
The team has been in with a great shout at a top 3 finish on Saturday, too, with Alexander Fach qualifying the #4 Porsche 911 GT3 R in fifth place for the Endurance race. The duo were in impressive form in the race itself, too, and were within striking distance of the podium for much of the 80-minute race. However, all hopes were dashed by a technical issue on the car.
“The outcome of Saturday’s race was extremely hard to accept for us,” said Alexander Fach. “But I still think we can be proud of what we showed. We did some great work in race one, with Alexander Schwarzer in particularly good shape and posting some great lap times. Race two was the reward for all the hard work.”
The next stop on the calendar for the team from Schwyz is round five of the 2024 season at the Red Bull Ring in Austria from 27 to 29 September.
