Hanafin scores second rookie podium result in Monaco

Round two of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, on the Formula 1 support package, took FACH AUTO TECH to Monte Carlo from 26 to 29 May. At the street circuit in the principality, Alexander Fach, Lorcan Hanafin and Jukka Honkavuori were particularly challenged. Hanafin finished the race in 14th place as the third-best rookie.

“Monaco is known for the fact that the starting grid positions from qualifying are particularly important. The tight street circuit is making overtaking very difficult for the drivers,” team principal Alex Fach explains. “Therefore, our initial positions for the race weren’t optimal.” Two red flags and a time penalty for a track limit infringement prevented better grid positions than 15th (#10 Jukka Honkavuori), 18th (#8 Alexander Fach) and 19th (#9 Lorcan Hanafin) place.

In the early stages of the race, Hanafin already made clear that he had bigger ambitions for the race. With a spectacular start phase, he made up several positions right away and moved up into 14th place. “It was a fantastic race with a really good start that immediately enabled me to make up positions. I am really happy to have made it onto the rookie podium in third place and I can hardly wait to take on the next race at Imola.”

Just behind their teammate, Jukka Honkavuori and Alexander Fach crossed the finish line in 16th and 17th place. A safety car intervention immediately after the start made it more difficult for the Porsche drivers to make up positions. With a competitive spirit, the duo eventually had the upper hand against the opposition and defended the positions until the finish.

The next destination for FACH AUTO TECH is Imola. The Italian circuit with its long heritage will be hosting round three of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland from 17 to 19 June. There, Hanafin and Fach will be on the grid again.
