There wasn’t a spot on the podium, but happiness reigned nevertheless: team principal Alex Fach had never been more relieved about a sixth place than at the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in Monaco. The reason behind this was Morris Schuring, who delivered the season’s top result, despite a jostle with another competitor.
The 18-year-old Dutchman started the race from seventh on the grid and immediately moved up a position. However, things got tight for the talent, who’s at the wheel for FACH AUTO TECH in 2023 for the first time. “I was nudged by a rival, spun into the crash barrier and just managed to keep the car under control,” said Schuring.
“That was a big shock moment,” Alex Fach adds. “At the pit wall, we were hoping not too much had bust during the incident. Although, the car was damaged, Morris did everything right in the following laps and saved the sixth place. That takes a lot of instinctive feeling – especially on such a difficult circuit such as Monaco.”
Gustav Burton, the team’s second newcomer also had to discover how demanding the narrow Côte d’Azur street circuit can be. The Brit started from midfield and initially made up ground, but lost several positions during the race. At the end, he finished 16th, but secured first points in the rookie category.
Alexander Fach too picked up points and ended the first race of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season in 13th place. There were only a few drivers in the field who made up as many places as the 20-year-old from Sattel. Fach improved on the circuit, where overtaking is virtually impossible, and gained five positions.
The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup heads from 30 June – 2 July to the Red Bull Ring. Beforehand, the next round of the German championship is scheduled. As part of the “Festival of Dreams” programme, the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland guests from 9-11 June in Hockenheim.
