Behind the scenes: Loading our truck

In our Behind the scenes series, we want to give you an exclusive glimpse into the day-to-day workings of FACH AUTO TECH both at the circuit and away from racing. We will show you the kind of challenges our team has to face before we even arrive at the paddock to ensure that we have the chance of a successful race weekend.

Nine of the eleven Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup races are in Europe, and so we travel to these rounds in our own truck. With the Formula 1 teams taking up the space in the pit lane, we are usually quartered in the paddock. Besides our own tent, we need a considerable amount of materials to ensure to have the best possible workplace for the race weekend.

We begin loading all the tools and equipment we need for a race weekend on Tuesday. Space is limited, even in the biggest trucks, and so it’s vital that we load our truck in the right order. We usually make a start with the bulkiest equipment, such as tool boxes, before moving onto tyre trolleys, steering assembly, tables and benches.

Once all of the equipment has been safely loaded and secured, it’s time to move on to the smaller equipment. This includes fuel canisters, compressed air bottles, our trolley called Taylor and the dolly jacks, as well as the tyres, rims, bodywork and spare parts. Once we arrive, the first task is to put up our tent, so the last things to go into the truck are the poles and floor panels.

The most important pieces of cargo are our three Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars. They are store on a separate level in the truck and are only loaded once all the other loading work has been completed. All in all, it takes us around three hours to fully load our truck and be ready to leave. Our next stop is the finale of the European season in Monza. Once at the track, we do it all again in reverse order and set up our workplace for the weekend.
