The fifth of a total of ten Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup races is on the agenda. After a year’s pause, the international brand trophy returns to the Hockenheimring. Nick Yelloly’s objective remains closing the gap to the top of the standings.
FACH AUTO TECH has fond memories of the German Grand Prix track. Last champion in 2016 was Matteo Cairoli, at the time Porsche junior on behalf of the Sattel team. The crew from Canton Schwyz had also celebrated a success two years previously, when Earl Bamber finished second in Hockenheim.
Nick Yelloly continues to focus on the overall classification. With a second place and a ten point deficit, the Brit aims to reduce the gap to the top. Both Jaap van Lagen and Christof Langer lost ranking positions after the frustrating retirements in Silverstone and intend to recapture them. The team too is set on climbing back to first place in the team standings.
The Hockenheimring race not only marks the return of Formula 1 and Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup to Germany, but also means halftime in the 2018 season. Even though the race isn’t listed regularly on the calendar, the track has been part of the Formula 1 programme since 1970 and since 1993 for the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.
The lights switch to green on Sunday, 22 July at 12:05. Eurosport 2 is broadcasting the Hockenheim race live on TV at 11:45 and a replay can be seen on the same day on Eurosport 1 at 19:15 and on Tuesday, 24 July at 22:00.
