Barcelona season opener successfully mastered

For FACH AUTO TECH, it was the first round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season on 12 May at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Jaxon Evans and Florian Latorre secured solid eighth and twelfth places respectively, and collected the first twelve championship points for the Swiss team. Kantadhee Kusiri in the Porsche 911 GT3 also delivered a good debut race and finished fifth in the Rookie category, even if the team had higher expectations for the opening weekend.

“The results are a respectable start to the season, but we certainly had hoped for more. After the two Top-10 qualifying spots, a better result definitely could have been possible”, team manager Alex Fach summarized. “Our drivers are all still quite young, in fact it was Kantadhee and Jaxon’s first Supercup race. With that in mind, they performed very well and fought hard. We’ll be building on this in Monaco and I’m sure we’ll be landing nearer the front.”

It was above all Jaxon Evans’ good start that propelled him forwards from tenth on the grid. After just a few bends, the New Zealander was already in eighth position and from then on fought continually through the field, but the Australian Carrera Cup champion couldn’t quite keep the pace of the Lechner Racing driver Al Faisal Al Zubair in front and crossed the finish line as eighth in what was his first Supercup performance.

“It was my first race in Supercup, so an eighth place isn’t bad at all. I see this season basically as a training year, where I intend to develop myself. I picked up a lot of experience here in Barcelona and delivered a good result, but we’ll definitely want to finish further up in the coming races. We’ve got our sights set on the podium”, the Porsche Junior explained after this first round.

Rookie champion Florian Latorre’s twelfth clocked up further championship points for the Sattel team. “My start wasn’t quite so top, I fell back from ninth to twelfth position and couldn’t really move forwards after that. 28 cars meant a tough field, overtaking wasn’t easy”, the Frenchman commented after the race. Kantadhee Kusiri in the sister car also put up a good fight during his debut in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and secured fifth in the Rookie category and an overall 17th.

Project 1 by FACH AUTO TECH driver Jannes Fittje finished 16th just in front of Kusiri and narrowly missed the Rookie podium with his fourth place. Team mate Marius Nakken finished the race as seventh-best Rookie with an overall 19th.

The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup’s second round is scheduled for 23 to 26 May. The race in the Principality of Monaco is the yearly highlight of the international brand trophy calendar.
